Our method
How we review and score supplements
Every rating on The Honest Capsule follows the same process. Here is exactly how we test, how we turn buyer feedback into numbers, and how we keep affiliate income from bending what we say.
Who we are
The Honest Capsule is an independent supplement-review publication based in Birmingham, Alabama, operating since 2020 as Honest Capsule Media LLC. We are not a manufacturer, a retailer, or a brand's marketing arm. We exist to do one thing: buy supplements, try them, dig into the evidence and the buyer feedback, and publish a verdict a real person can act on. We cover products like SlimTide because readers are actively searching for a straight answer before they spend money.
Who reviews
How we test
Wherever possible we buy the product ourselves, at full price, through the same channel a normal customer would use. For SlimTide that meant a multi-week, real-world trial: one of our team took it daily for eight weeks while keeping a structured food and symptom log, under our reviewer's oversight. We avoid changing diet or exercise during a test so that what we observe can be reasonably tied to the product itself. We are transparent that a single hands-on trial is an experience report, not a clinical study, and we never present it as proof of a health outcome.
How we score: the eight criteria
We rate each product from 1 to 5 on eight criteria, then weight them to produce the editorial score you see in the verdict box. Effectiveness and value carry the most weight; the others refine the picture.
| Criterion | What it captures |
|---|---|
| Effectiveness | Does it do what it claims, based on our trial and the weight of user reports? |
| Digestive comfort | Tolerability and stomach-friendliness in daily use |
| Onset speed | How quickly typical users notice a change |
| Ease of use | Format, dosing and how easy it is to stick with |
| Value for money | Cost per day against what you actually get |
| Label transparency | Whether doses, strains and amounts are disclosed |
| Refund & support | How fair and painless the guarantee is in practice |
| Repurchase intent | Whether users keep buying after the first bottle |
How we use buyer reviews
Alongside our own trial, we aggregate public buyer reviews to capture a far larger sample than any one person's experience. We summarize the rating distribution, the recurring positive and negative themes, rough demographics and how long people say results took. These figures are an editorial summary meant to show patterns; they are not a verified clinical dataset, and we present the community rating separately from our own editorial score so you can see both. We deliberately include critical reviews, because a product that only shows five-star feedback is hiding something.
Editorial independence and how we make money
The Honest Capsule is reader-supported. When you buy through a link to a product's official website, we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you. That is how we fund the buying and testing. It does not change our scores, our cons lists, or whether we recommend something. We write the review first and add the links afterward; a product does not get a better score for paying more. Our full, plain-English disclosure lives on the affiliate disclosure page, and it follows the U.S. Federal Trade Commission's guidance (16 CFR Part 255) on endorsements.
Corrections
If we get something wrong, tell us and we will fix it and note the change. Email [email protected]. We update reviews as prices change and as new information appears, and the "last updated" date reflects the most recent review.
